"You Died" – How to Handle Job Rejection & Keep Moving Forward
If you’ve ever played Dark Souls, Elden Ring, or any tough-as-nails game, you know the sting of seeing “You Died” on screen.
Job rejection feels the same, it’s frustrating, discouraging, and sometimes downright painful.
But just like in gaming, every failure is a lesson that brings you closer to victory. Here’s how to respawn stronger after a job rejection:
1. Don’t Take It Personally, It’s Just the Boss AI at Work
Rejection isn’t always about you.
Sometimes, the company:
⚔️ Already had an internal hire in mind.
⚔️ Was looking for an ultra-specific skill set.
⚔️ Had last-minute budget changes or hiring freezes.
Just like in games, sometimes the mechanics are working against you—but that doesn’t mean you’re not skilled enough to win.
2. Review the Death Screen – Analyze What Happened
Every loss is a chance to improve.
Ask yourself:
đź“Ś Did my resume highlight the right skills for this role?
đź“Ś Could I have answered certain interview questions better?
đź“Ś Did I follow up with the recruiter or hiring manager?
If possible, ask for feedback, many companies won’t give it, but some will, and their insights can be game-changing.
3. Use Your XP – Level Up Your Skills
Every defeat teaches something new.
If rejection becomes a pattern, consider:
🎮 Taking a short course or certification to strengthen your skills.
🎮 Practicing interview responses with a career coach or mentor.
🎮 Enhancing your resume and LinkedIn profile for better visibility.
Think of this as grinding for XP before facing the next boss fight.
4. Keep Grinding – The Right Offer is Coming
In gaming, you don’t quit after one tough battle, you try again with better strategies.
Job hunting is the same:
🔄 Apply to new jobs immediately—momentum is key.
🔄 Expand your network; 80% of hires happen through referrals.
🔄 Stay positive—every “no” brings you closer to the right “yes.”
5. Rest at a Bonfire – Take Care of Yourself
Rejection hurts, so don’t forget to:
🔥 Take a break—play your favorite game, hang out with friends, or do something fun.
🔥 Remind yourself of your wins—reflect on past achievements and how far you've come.
🔥 Stay focused on your long-term goal—this is just one battle in a much bigger quest.

Every rejection makes you stronger.
Each time you apply again, you have more knowledge, better strategies, and stronger resilience.
Keep moving forward, and eventually, you’ll land the right role—your true victory.

What’s new with Dellyn Digital📝🎮?
After my first week back in the 9-to-5 world, I have to say,it feels great.
The environment is much different from my last workplace.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the people I worked with, and my manager was incredible, but let’s just say… some folks at the top didn’t quite get it.
If you know, you know.
Everything happens for a reason.
That’s something my stepfather told me before he passed when I was seven years old, and those words have stuck with me ever since.
Moments like a layoff force you to reflect, not just on where you’ve been but on where you want to go.
If you’ve ever been laid off, you know it’s a defining moment. It either levels you up… or sends you to the game-over screen with no continue button.
Looking back, I’m glad it happened.
Now, I know exactly what kind of companies I want to work with and, more importantly, that I want to focus on building Dellyn Digital to the point where it becomes my full-time mission.
Helping others grow, providing value, and seeing people level up, it fills my cup in a way that never feels like "work."
That’s what real fulfillment looks like.
