🎓 Breaking Into the Job Market: How to Find Work as a New Grad
You just finished college, leveled up your skills, and now you're ready to take on the job market, but getting your first role can feel like fighting a high-level boss without any armor.
Here’s how to grind XP, build connections, and land your first job in the industry.
1. Don’t Just Apply—Network Like a Pro
📢 80% of jobs are landed through networking, not job boards. Instead of blindly applying, try:
âś… Reaching out to alumni from your college on LinkedIn.
âś… Joining industry groups related to your field.
âś… Attending virtual or in-person events where hiring managers hang out.
🎮 Think of networking like multiplayer mode, team up and get ahead faster.
2. Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile for Recruiters
Your LinkedIn is your character sheet, make sure it’s complete:
🔹 Use a professional profile picture (no blurry selfies).
🔹 Write a strong headline (e.g., Aspiring [Job Title] that's Passionate About [Industry-Specific Skill])
🔹 List all relevant projects, internships, or freelance work (even coursework if applicable).
🔹 Populate the "Skills" section so recruiters can find you.
💡 Cheat Code: Engage on LinkedIn by commenting on industry posts and sharing insights, you’ll get noticed faster!
3. Focus on Transferable Skills
Many entry-level job descriptions ask for experience, even when it’s an entry-level job (yeah, we know, it’s frustrating).
But if you don’t have direct work experience, highlight:
âś… Class projects that mirror real-world tasks.
âś… Internships or volunteer work (even short-term gigs count).
âś… Part-time jobs that demonstrate communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
🎯 Example: If you worked in retail, emphasize customer service and conflict resolution, both key in business settings.
4. Get Experience—Even If It’s Not a Full-Time Job Yet
If you're struggling to land a full-time job, get creative with ways to gain experience:
đź’Ľ Freelance: Sites like Upwork and Fiverr let you build experience in small projects.
🏆 Internships (Paid or Unpaid): Some companies will take interns even if you’ve already graduated.
🎮 Personal Projects: If you're in tech, design, writing, or marketing, create a portfolio showcasing your work.
Think of this as grinding side quests before tackling the main story!
5. Apply Smart, Not Everywhere
Applying to 100+ jobs with the same resume won’t work. Instead:
🔍 Tailor your resume for each job by matching keywords from the job description.
📩 Write a strong cover letter explaining why you’re passionate about this role.
🔄 Follow up if you don’t hear back in two weeks, send a polite LinkedIn message or email.
đź’ˇ Cheat Code: Quality > Quantity. 10 well-crafted applications will get better results than 100 generic ones.
6. Stay in the Game—Rejection is Part of the Process
Job hunting takes time.
You’ll get rejected.
You might feel stuck.
But every “no” gets you closer to the right “yes.”

It’s time for an upgrade.
I’ve been eyeing the newest MacBook Pro for the past two weeks, and I’ve decided, I’m going for it. I’m reinvesting my first month’s earnings into this upgrade because calculated risks are necessary for growth. By upgrading my potato… I mean, laptop, I’ll be able to create even better content and help more people.

Beyond the tech upgrade, things are moving fast. I was invited to two podcasts, one recording is already in the books, and I’ve got another one coming up this week.
